The Canaan Dog Club of America encourages breeders to educate the public about the breed and its needs. One can always contact affiliated breeders for information on the breed and available litters. However, before purchase, it is wise to determine the characteristics of the Canaan dog and decide if it is the right breed for you. Responsible breeders will be glad to inform you on the advantages and disadvantages of owning a Canaan dog.

The Canaan Dog Club of America is one of the breed clubs that are few. However, the Canaan dog is promoted outside the United States too. Thus, the Canaan Dog Club UK takes care of the welfare of the breed in Great Britain. There are specialty events within the club. The Canaan dog is a rare breed. This means that the dog cannot get titles in conformation and does not enter the studbook. Nevertheless, Canaan dog breeders and owners are welcome to train their dogs for agility, herding, obedience, and other canine sports.

What is more important, the breed clubs unite their efforts to help Canaan breeders and owners raise their dogs successfully. The clubs promote the breed by the means of organizing events and giving breeders an opportunity to share their experience with Canaans.
